The book, resulting from the research of three enthusiasts, who for various reasons have connections with these topics, presents the history of about a century of public transport in the west area of Turin, along the axis of Corso Francia up to Rivoli.
Rich in almost 500 images, it can be of interest to the historian of political and bureaucratic vicissitudes that led to the construction of the first economical narrow-gauge steam railway in Italy in 1871. Furthermore, the volume also concerns those who are interested in the curiosities pertaining this territory in the period dating back from the second half of the 19th century to the first half of the 20th century.
The development of the territory is also highlighted through the description of the sidings to the companies that were established along Corso Francia, supported by the new infrastructure. There is no shortage of elements of railway technology, as the vehicles that travelled those tracks are also mentioned, starting with the steam locomotives of the origins built in Belgium, to continue with the electric tram cars dated 1914 produced by the company Diatto based in Turin and ending with the Electric Motorcar Units (EMUs) by FIAT and by Savigliano. Trains that the older ones will remember perhaps with the name of “grinder”.
