ATTS

About us

ATTS - Torino Vintage Streetcars Society - was founded on 21st December 2005 to preserve and promote historical tramways as cultural and historical heritage of the town.
ATTS is a no-profit association supported by the voluntary work of its members, inspired by similar initiatives which have already been successfully realized in other countries. Partners of ATTS are GTT – the public transport company of Turin – and other public and private organizations.
The association is also open to all sympathizers and to anyone who would like to support the “Tram” as mean of transport.

OUR AIMS

First of all, ATTS aims to increase its fleet of historical trams present in Turin, restoring tramcars particularly interesting from the historical point of view. Today seven restored cars dating from the Twenties and the Forties travel through the city streets in special occasions and for turistic services. The commitment of ATTS is to obtain cars also from other cities, in order to promote within 2011 the realization of a permanent historical tramway, integrated with the ordinary urban transport network and fully operated by historical tramcars. The route will be that of line 7- already operational from October to December 2007 in occasion of the Centenary of the foundation of Turin municipal transport society - with higher frequency and two circle routes.

Last but not least, other important activities are the search and preservation of historical documents about Turin tramway system and the organization of special events in cooperation with other associations.

GOALS REALIZED SO FAR

  • The restoration of an historical tramcar dating back to 1911.
  • The organization of “Torino Trolley Festival”: a celebration dedicated to the “Tram” as mean of transport, consisting in exhibition of tramcars from different ages, free tours on historical tramcars, photo exhibitions and shows.
  • The initiative “A lesson on the historical tram”: promotional rides together with guided cultural tours organized for schools of Turin and its Province.

ONGOING PROJECTS

  • HISTRAM project (acronym of “Historical Tramways”): cooperation network amongst European associations and museums aiming to restore, preserve and promote historical tramcars as common cultural heritage. The associations that have joined in the project so far are: Muenchen, Rotterdam and Stockholm.
  • The restoration of a tramcar from the Thirties is underway, which will be presented in occasion of the 2nd edition of Torino Trolley Festival (Giardini Reali of Turin, 1st and 2nd December 2007).
